How Far in Advance Should You Book Flights from India?

One of the questions we hear most often is "When is the best time to book my ticket?" There is no magic day, but there are booking windows that consistently give better fares.

Domestic flights

For routes within India, booking 2–3 weeks ahead usually gets you a fair price. During festivals (Diwali, Holi, Christmas–New Year) and long weekends, book 6–8 weeks ahead — fares on popular routes can double in the last 10 days.

International flights

For the Gulf and South-East Asia, aim for 4–6 weeks. For Europe, North America and Australia, 2–3 months ahead is safer, especially for summer holidays and student season (July–September).

Tips to save on airfare

  • Be flexible by a day or two — mid-week departures are often cheaper.
  • Compare nearby airports (e.g. Delhi vs. Jaipur, Mumbai vs. Pune).
  • Check baggage rules — a cheaper fare without check-in baggage can end up costing more.
  • For groups of 10+, ask for a group fare rather than booking individually.
